(Music) CHARLES CAPPS>>Welcome to the Concepts of Faith Broadcast. I am Charles Capps and we’re talking about authority of man in Jesus. Now we are getting into some things here, we’ll want to recap some things that we said on the last broadcast, because we’re talking about the fact that Jesus was born on this planet with a physical flesh, blood and bone body. In Genesis 1, God said “Let us make man in Our image and let them have dominion.” Jesus was born with a physical body; the reason was so that He would have authority on this planet. Now here’s essentially, what happened, let me say it briefly: When Adam sold the earth lease, he sinned and essentially sold the earth lease out to the devil, God had given man a lease on this planet for 6,000 years evidently. And when Adam sinned, committed high treason, he sold the earth lease out to the devil, then the devil took authority over wicked men. And he tends to try to rule on this planet through wicked men. Well, Jesus was born on this planet as the seed of righteousness. You know, we know that in the Flood, God destroyed all but the righteous of the earth and there were only 8 righteous on the earth at that time. So wicked people had dominion on the earth and God destroyed all that. And then we find that Jesus was born in the earth, He was the seed of righteousness. Now you know if you’re going to produce anything, you’ve got to start with a seed. And we know the Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, the Word was God, the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.” And we realize that Jesus was born of the virgin, had a physical body on this planet so that He would have authority here as a man. Now you see if you have authority here, you can destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8 says – For this purpose, the Son of God was manifest, that he might destroy the works of the devil. – Now the Amplified, I believe says it this way: he might loosen, dissolve and undo the works the devil had done. Now that’s what Jesus came to do. But He didn’t come here in His divine Godhead powers as God to do that. Now I know it’s hard for some people to understand but if you’ll follow our teaching closely, you’ll see what I’m talking about. Now, let’s pick up on it again, we were in Luke the 4th chapter, where Jesus, after He was baptized in the River Jordan, He was 30 years of age at that time and up until he was 30 years of age, He had not done one single miracle, He had not cast out one demon, He had not healed one single sick person. And I’ve always asked the question, “Why?” and I found in the Word of God it was because until He was anointed with the Holy Ghost and healing power… you know Peter said in the book of Acts, “How God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power. And He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.” Now notice He healed all that were oppressed of the devil. In other words, Peter is saying sickness and disease is an oppression of the devil, or the evil one. And I tell you there’s a lot of Christians that have not understood that yet. They still think sickness is a blessing from God. Folks, sickness is under the curse. Now that, that means that it is an enemy of God, it is an enemy of man, and God wants you well. That’s why Jesus came to this earth, the Scripture says in John 10:10, I call the dividing line of the Bible – The thief cometh not, but for to steal, to kill and to destroy: – now that’s the devil. He came for 3 reasons, kill, steal and destroy God’s creation. But Jesus said – I am come – thank God, Jesus came! – I am come that you might have life, and have it more abundantly. – No He didn’t say that you might have sickness and it more profoundly. No, because Jesus came that you might have life. Now God anointed Him with the Holy Ghost and power. When did He do it? When He was baptized in the River Jordan. Until He was 30 years of age, He had never healed one single person, He had not cast out one demon, He had not done one single miracle. Now I want you to see, go with me over to Hebrews (we’re going to come back to Luke there, the 4th chapter), but go with me to Hebrews 2 and let’s read something that the writer here says, But one…, verse 6 – But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownest him with glory and honor, and did set him over the works of thy hands: -now he’s talking about man and the Son of Man. He’s talking about two; he’s talking about man and the Son of Man, which include Jesus…. Made a little lower than the angels. Now if you check the word “angel” in Psalms 8 and in some other place in the Old Testament, the word is translated from the word “Elohim.” And it does not mean angel at all, it means God. Now man was made a little lower than God. Now, man is not God, he never will be God. Don’t misunderstand me. You know some people think you’re saying that man is God. No, no, I’m not God and don’t want to be God, never will be God. But man was created in the image of God. Now he says – Thou made… Thou putest all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. – In other words, at the time of this writing and of course, now, we don’t see all things put under man but we see Jesus who was made the same way, a little lower than angels. Now he says Jesus was made the same way man was made, lower than angels or lower than Elohim. Now notice – But Jesus, who was made a little lower… , we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. – Now Jesus came to this planet with a physical, flesh, blood and bone body, He was a man. He took on Him the nature of man. Now if you come on down to verse 14 – Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he himself likewise took part of the same; – in other words He became a partaker of flesh and blood; life, just like man. That through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, which is the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of people. For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help them who are tempted. Now it’s obvious here that the writer is saying that Jesus became a man, He took the nature of man, He became a man so that He would have authority here. Because God had put all things under man’s feet but after the fall, all things were not under man’s feet. But we see Jesus who was made the same way that man, with a physical, flesh, blood and bone body, and He put all things under His feet. He exercised full dominion on this planet during the time that He was here until He gave Himself up, gave His life up for the sacrifice to redeem us and deliver us from the evil one. And to destroy the devil, or destroy – in the Bible the word “destroy” there actually means to “paralyze,” him that had the power of death, which is the devil. So death came by sin, death came by man because man made the wrong decision. Now man had the right to make that decision because God told Adam to subdue the earth and have dominion over it. He had a legal right to make the decision he made, to eat of the wrong fruit. He did not have a moral right to do that, because God had given, had given him authority to make the decision, but He told him not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of blessing and calamity. He already knew the blessing, he didn’t need that calamity business, and that’s essentially what brought sickness and disease into the planet. It was when sin came in, Satan was here, and if you notice in the Garden of Eden, Satan showed up in the Garden of Eden. He had to borrow, borrow the body of a serpent so he could manifest himself. Now here’s something you need to understand because it’s very vital to you operating in the authority as a believer. You need to understand that your physical body, this physical flesh, blood and bone body gives you authority on this planet. Have you noticed that when you go to get a job or sign up for anything, they want to see your birth certificate. Now you know, it looks to me like they could look at you and tell you were born, certainly they could. But what is it? It’s a legal document to prove that you were born on this planet in a certain state, in a certain city or a certain town, at a certain time. It’s a legal document. And to tell you the truth, it is a legal document that reveals that you have power and authority over devils and demons and evil spirits, for this reason: Satan and demons and evil spirits do not have physical flesh, blood and bone bodies. They have spiritual bodies but they don’t have physical bodies. Now folks, to have authority on this planet, you must have an earthly body. And the devil doesn’t have one. Evil spirits doesn’t have one. Now what get out of this is the fact that Jesus came here with a physical body. That’s the reason that He needed to be, must needs be born on this planet. He could not just come here from Heaven as God in His divine Godhead power and start destroying the works of the devil, because He had given man a lease on this planet and God was not going to say, “Kings X on that. I’ll just wipe it all out and make me another man and do it all over again.” He couldn’t do that because God cannot lie. God will never violate His Word. God cannot lie and He would not go back. So what He did, is sent His Son, His Word, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we, we see in the Scriptures that Jesus is called by the Apostle Paul a man. Now I wanted you to understand that so you could see that I’m not being sacrilegious about this thing, I’m just trying to show you some things that will help you understand Jesus was a man. Now He was the Son of God, all right. He was the divine Son of God but God anointed Him with the Holy Ghost and healing power before He ever healed one single person. And the reason for that is the fact that until God anointed Him He did not have the ability to heal the sick. He laid that all down in Heaven, Philippians 2 tells us that. He laid down that power and glory when He came to the earth. And He came here as a man, He came here to suffer and to die and to redeem man from sin and deliver us from the authority of darkness. The Scripture says we have been delivered from the authority of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of His Dear Son, and it all came through Jesus Christ when He shed His blood to redeem mankind from sin and deliver us from the authority of darkness. Now we’re talking about the authority of man and of Jesus. I want us to go there to Philippians chapter 2, we’ve been quoting it but let’s go there and read it. Philippians chapter 2, let’s begin reading with verse 5 – Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: – Now what that means is that He didn’t think it was something to be grasped or held onto, that’s what the Greek says. In other words, He was with God and as God in Heaven but He said He would not hold onto that. He would release that, leave that divine power and glory in Heaven and come to the earth a man. – But made of himself of no reputation, took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: – Now folks, that beyond a shadow of doubt reveals that Jesus laid down His divine power and glory when He came to the earth. – Being found in the fashion as a man, – Now let’s read that again – And being found in the fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, beings in heaven, things in heaven, – actually it should be beings because things don’t have knees and it says – things in heaven things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. So what we have here is the fact that the name of Jesus, at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow. Things in heaven, things in earth, things under the earth. In other words, there’s coming a time that every knee will bow to Jesus. And of course, we know Jesus came here, He laid down His divine power and glory, He came here as a man so He could suffer as a man that He could walk perfect and upright under the Old Covenant, fulfill it to the letter, and when He had fulfilled it to the letter – no man had ever been able to do that. When He had fulfilled it to the letter, it passed away and the New Covenant came into being after Jesus had died. Jesus was the only man that made out His will, you know a will is of no effect as long as a man’s alive, He made out a will and died to put it into effect and then arose from the dead to make sure, to activate it. Then He arose from the dead, He died to activate it, rose from the dead to make sure that it was carried out like He said. Cant’ you just see some shyster lawyer trying to cut the kids out of the will and the guy that made the will shows up in the courtroom? That’s what is going to happen at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Thank God, and at the White Throne Judgment. But now here we have, go back with me over to Luke’s Gospel there and I want to read it one more time. In Luke chapter 4, after Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan, He had gone, His fame had gone out throughout all the region round about. After the Holy Ghost had come upon Him and He goes into the synagogue. And on the Sabbath day He stood up for to read, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,” now He’s reading from Isaiah 61 – The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; sent me to heal the brokenhearted, preach deliverance to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, set at liberty them that are bruised, preach the acceptable year of the Lord. He closed the book, he gave it again to the minister, sat down. The eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began to say unto them, This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears. – Now they, you’d thought they would say, “Amen Brother Jesus! We’re going to vote you in as pastor!” But they didn’t! The first sermon He preached in His own hometown they wanted to kill Him. They fully intended to lead Him out to the cliff and cast Him headlong down the cliff. Now what made them so mad about what He said? Several things, but one of the things was tradition tells us that they had a seat in the synagogue reserved for the Messiah. And no one had ever sat in it and after Jesus closed the book, He sat down in the seat reserved for the Messiah. Now that’s what tradition says. I don’t know whether He did or not but it sounds logical because He knew He was the Messiah. So they got mad enough to kill Him. But not notice, let’s look at it – The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because… – Now you want to know why Jesus could heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, kill fig trees and stop storms? After He was anointed it was because God anointed Him. Now someone says, “Well you see, Jesus was operating as God here on the earth.” Now I know the Bible said God was manifest in the flesh. Now you need to analyze that in the light of the rest of the Scriptures. Here’s the reason why – God is manifest in my flesh because I don’t do the things I used to do. Why? Because Jesus Christ lives in me, God is manifest in my flesh through the person of Jesus Christ. And God was manifest in Jesus’ flesh. He was in the Beginning with God, the Word was God, the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Now I want to stress this because you get over into 1 John and you find that John says that anyone that will not confess that Jesus is come in the flesh is not of God. Now you can look at that several different ways but I want you to look at it this way: He said “Anyone that will not confess that Jesus is come in the flesh is not of God.” He said this is the way you discern the spirits. Any spirit that will not confess that Jesus is come in the flesh is not the Spirit of God. Now Jesus came in the flesh. He didn’t come in His divine power and glory, in other words. Now the demons thought that He did. And they said “We know who you are.” They challenged Him every time He tried or was going to cast a demon out – He didn’t try, He did- they challenged His authority. They said, “We know Who You are, You’re the Holy One of God.” In other words, You can’t cast us out because You’re God and we know that You gave man authority over this planet. But I like what Jesus said. HE said, “Shut your mouth and come out of him” and thank God they did. Because the devil, demons and evil spirits did not understand that Jesus was the Son of God, He had an earthly mother but He had a Heavenly Father, His blood line was of the Father but He laid down His divine Godhead powers when He came to the earth and operated as a man and did not do any miracles until God anointed Him. He had the authority of a man. You see, on this earth you have to be born here to have authority. So Jesus had to come by the legal manner so that He would have (coughs), pardon me, authority on this planet. So He was born of a woman. God was His Father, but He had authority to destroy the works of the devil, 1 John 3:8 says that – For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. – Well He had the authority to destroy the works of the devil before He had the anointing to do it. But here we find that God anointed Him and after God anointed Him there was great and mighty miracles that began to happen in the ministry of Jesus that reveals that God had given Him the ability to do these things through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. And folks, that same anointing is available to Christians today. Now we don’t, if we operated perfectly in it like Jesus did, we’d get the same results He did. But how many of you know we’re not perfect yet? But here’s, here’s the thing that I want you to see very clearly. John said he, any spirit that will not confess that Jesus came in the flesh – what does that mean, that Jesus came as a man. He did not come as God. Don’t misunderstand me, He was the Son of God, He was the divine Son of God but He did not come here as God. He came here as a man, anointed with the Holy Ghost, and God anointed Him with the Holy Ghost, then He could do great and mighty miracles. Now when He left this synagogue here, they were going to kill Him but He passed through the midst of them. Now verse 31 says – And came down to (clears throat) Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his Word was with power. And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, cried out with a loud voice, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. – The demons are challenging the authority of Jesus to cast them out. We said, they said, “Oh, we know who You are.” In other words, they said, “You can’t cast us out, it’s not time yet. You cant’ cast us out. We know You’re the Holy One of God.” See, they would not confess that Jesus had come in the flesh. They would not confess that Jesus was a man. That’s exactly what John was talking about. Any spirit that will not confess that Jesus came as a man is not of the Spirit of God. He had to come as a man to have legal authority here and then God anointed Him with the Holy Ghost. – Now Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. – In other words, “Shut your mouth and come out of him.” And thank God, he did. Now you will notice that as you come on over here, to verse 40 – Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. – How many did He heal? Every one of them. Now some people say, “Well now, you know, it’s not God’s will to heal everybody. Well now, you know the Disciples had trouble finding out which one is God’s will to heal so they can get just the right ones there, so He could heal them all. He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. Now you find the anointing of God upon the ministry of Jesus AFTER He was anointed with the Holy Ghost and healing power. And He went about doing good and healing all, ALL, that were oppressed of the devil. In other words, all sickness, all disease, all the calamities that came in their lives was an oppression of the evil one. And sometimes people get the idea that it’s God trying to teach me something. Well, you ought to learn it and get out of it then (laughs) you know. No, but no, notice what it says – And devils also came out of many, crying out, saying, Thou art the Christ the Son of God. And he rebuked them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was the Christ. – Now you see, they would not confess that Jesus came in the flesh. They said that He was the Christ, that He was the Holy One of God. In other words, they would not confess that He had come in the flesh. Jesus came in a physical body so that He could give His life. He said, “No man takes my life. I give it up freely.” No man took His life from Him. He came, He lived as a man and He healed the sick because He was anointed of God because God had anointed Him with the Holy Ghost and healing power. So you can see when you get into the Scriptures that there’s a very different story than most of us have ever understood. Yes, Jesus was the divine Son of God but He came here as a man but He was still the divine Son of God but He was operating as a man, anointed with the Holy Ghost and healing power. So that He, by the authority of a man, could destroy the works of the devil. Now before we leave the broadcast, we have our offer for this week. I’m offering this another week here. It’s called Offer #2512, it’s “Kicking Over Sacred Cows”. Now it’s a 200-page book plus 2 audio cassettes. Now the audio cassettes are not exactly like the book. The book has been edited and this was done in a live seminar, so I’d like for you to have both of them. It’s Offer #2512, $15. A 200-page booklet, plus the 2 audio cassettes in a beautiful album for $15. Now some of the things we talk about in here is the Chastening of the Lord. Now when you talk about Chastening of the Lord we’re talking about child training. How do you train a child? You train a child with words. You don’t take a child, and you know… if you put your child’s hand on the stove and burn it, and say, “I did that because I love you. I’m going to teach you not to touch a hot stove.” Folks, they’ll put you in jail for that. In fact, they’ll put you in prison for that, that’s child abuse. God does not make His people sick. Sickness and disease came with Satan. There is no sickness in Heaven and God is not the propagator of sickness and disease. And so many times people think that they are going through the troubles and the problems of life because it will make you stronger. They say, “We’re just going through the wilderness.” Did you notice that when Israel went through the wilderness it did not perfect their faith. I’ve heard people say, “Well, the trials of life will make you stronger.” Well now Jesus had a little different idea about that. He said, “In time of temptation, they fall away.” So if it’s God putting the trial, the trouble, the wilderness experience on you, then He would be considered to partner to them falling away. No, it is not God doing it. You need to know it’s the devil and God’s not a child abuser. We call Him our Heavenly Father and we should know that no father would put sickness and disease on a child. So the Chastening of the Lord, He chastens us with His Word, child-trains us. Now some of the other subjects in this book is called, “The Others of Hebrews 11.” Have you ever wondered why some died and others didn’t, the others of Hebrews 11? Get into it and study it.
