Fertilizing Your New Trees

[music] Hi folks. I’m Elmer Kidd, Chief Production Officer at Stark Bro’s Nurseries & Orchards Co. Today, we’re going to show you how to fertilize some one- and two-year old transplants with Stark® Tre-Pep® – an effective fertilizer to apply to your trees, shrubs, and flowers. Stark® Tre-Pep® has three main ingredients: Nitrogen (N), Phosphate (P), and Potash (K). The Potash goes a long way toward root development. To get started, we need five things: Stark® Tre-Pep® Fertilizer water, a bucket, a measuring spoon and something to stir and mix with. As you can see, we’ve already added the water to the bucket; there’s about two gallons in this bucket. We’re going to add a tablespoon of Tre-Pep® per gallon. Now that we’ve added the Tre-Pep® to the water, it’s time to stir the mixture. [stirring] Now that it’s ready use this mixture to water your plants thoroughly. You can repeat these steps every ten days of the beginning of the growing season until July to give your trees and plants a quick feeding that will start them off right. Stark® Tre-Pep® will help your plants and trees get off to a better start they’ll bear sooner and maintain good health. Stark® Tre-Pep® Fertilizer is available in 13-oz and 5-lb sizes at starkbros.com. [music]

  1. I have new stark apple and plum trees that I started this spring. How much of the mixture should I give them per application?

  2. When applying Stark® Tre-Pep® Fertilizer, which must first be combined with water to form a solution, you only need to use apply 1 gallon per tree. However, we do not recommend fertilizing any plants and trees after July 1. This helps to avoid pushing tender new growth that may be susceptible to winter injury later in the year.
