Following the soil analysis process


Once we have received the samples at the CSBP
Lab we match the samples to the analysis request submitted through DecipherGO. We then group samples into batches and assign
each sample a unique CSBP Lab number. Samples are then transferred into drying trays. We identify the texture of samples if required
and then dry samples in the oven overnight. Once dry we remove any gravel from the sample,
then prepare the samples under two millimetres. Samples are then moved into the lab for analysis. We offer 47 separate soil nutritional tests
and while some measure total nutrients, most of our soil tests are extracts designed to
estimate plant available nutrients. Common soil tests requested include pH, Nitrate
and Ammonium available Nitrogen, Colwell Phosphorus and Potassium, Organic Carbon, Sulfur, Phosphorus
Buffering Index and Exchangeable Cations. Many tests have a specific extracting solution
test to make plant available nutrients. Each test selection has its own unique process. We measure the nutrients using a variety
of laboratory techniques including probes, colour based chemistry and spectroscopy. Automated processes along with robust methods,
equipment and skilled staff allow the lab to quickly and accurately analyse thousands of samples per
day, ensuring fast turnaround and consistent quality results for customers. We ensure quality results are produced through
the use of reference materials, duplicate samples and quality control systems and processes. All results are reviewed by our quality control
team and a chemist prior to being reported. We hold any residual samples for up to three
months so we can conduct additional analysis if required. The CSBP lab holds ASPAC certification for
a comprehensive suite of tests and are FertCare compliant. Results submitted via DecipherGO are available
