Guppy farming | Malappuram | ഗപ്പി കൃഷിയിലെ നൂതന രീതികള്‍ | Part-2

Namaskaram…welcome back to the second part of the Guppy tales.. In the last episode we had aquainted with this beautiful living creature in their little kingdom …their living food and the style of nurturing. I had told you in the last episode that we are gonna make a second part of this video and pointed out that what would be the topic as what I said..we are going to show you how Mr.Jabir bring these tiny creature to a better environment to live. How he looks after his pets when they got disease? How he breeds its babies? Mr.Jabir..we have the interest to learn more about your pisciculture without dropping any points You have a made a shed for this nurturing..right? so what are the things that a new fish farmer should follow when he enters in to this business ? As I told you in the last video that I had come to this field since my childhood as a curiosity on this hobby. A normal fish farmer builds tanks and breeds fish. This would meet trouble when rain ruins the tank and fish, and the open tank would be in danger when the local frog and snakes attack these tiny creatures In this situation, building a separate shed for these tanks become necessary when we think about vast process of breeding. The fish will be in safe in this protective sheds from the attacks of reptiles, frogs and other animals. Then comes the tanks in which we breed the fish. I have been using three types of tanks . One is old fridges then the silpaulin water storage tanks, the last one is the cement tanks that I build. I have been set up 60 to 70 tanks as whole. Apart from this..I am using big plastic vessels for baby fish. I use these three tanks on the basis of their capacity to hold the fish. When we put less number of fish we can use small vessel. As well as I am not using any air filter. I pay attention to create a natural habitat and environment to these creature. Instead of air filter I grow 10 to 15 variety water plants and moss. So when I create a tank I pay attention to set up a natural habitat for them by planting water plants and growing moss. Hence there is no need for an air filter. Earlier I had used air filters. The fish showed discomfort when they were taken to other abode which is lack of air filters. Frequent power disconnection also made me to stop the use of Air filters. But it should be kept in mind that when we choose tanks that must be clean and free from dirt and viscous items like oil. The water also should be as pure as drinking water possessing the Ph level of 7. I don’t use bore well water and chlorinated water to fill the tank. If some uses bore well water as the lack of normal well water, they must keep the water for 2 – 3 days to settle down and they can pour it only after testing the water quality. we could see some moss and water plants here..can u tell us about it. yes I am using some local moss, Assola and water weeds to purify the water. It also gives a shelter for tiny fish to be safe from the attack of the big ones. Besides it creates a natural habitat for this little creature. There also form small living things around these plants and naturally they become the food of these guppies. The plants should not be exceeded in its number. Is this the breeding cage? Yes it is the breeding cage. During the hatching when tiny babies come out, there is the threatening from the matured guppies. As this cage has holes, the baby fish can come out of cage and live safely. Can we fix this cage inside the water tank, doesn’t they sink in to it? Yes we can fix the breeding cage with small stones or clay tiles. We should pay attention when food is put inside as this cage has holes. So these have male and female right? Breeding cage doesn’t need male. Female is enough.. Never the less keeping male inside will not make any harm. This is the breeding set. So these are the breeding pair and after breeding the babies come out of these holes..right? Yes. Ok now let us discuss about water transplantation from the tank. How do you manage this process without making them annoyed ? As I told you before there should possess a basic knowledge on this nurture. After that we can use our logic. Normally I used to change the 10% of water once in a week. I will not change the whole water as there is water shortage here in summer. Besides I request you to use this water for other purposes without wasting it. Can I ask one question.. when u keep the 90% of used water in the tank itself.. will it not make harm to the fish as the old water contain fish wastage? No..but when we change the water frequently it will make sudden changes in its temperature and water quality. The water is contaminated when the wastage are deposited in the bottom and emits ammonium. In this case we evict only the wastage that creates ammonium. By taking this wastage out of the water ends up the threatening of contamination. Some does this process once in a week and some people transfer water in every 10 days. If we neglect to change water it causes disease to the fish. For transferring water we use these types of water tubes and valves. There should be a net inside the tube for not passing the baby fish out. I will demonstrate this tube by showing you how to change the water. This is the tank to be cleaned. Here I will remove the net as there is no much baby fish in the tank. The new pisciculturists should be careful in using tubes as there is the possibility of blockage inside the valve. We can pump the water even in heights. we can put the tube at the bottom of the tank and remove the wastages out of it. We can remove the dirt by using this tube and valve easily and these equipments are very cheap in the market. We can remove the dirt by using this tube and valve easily and these equipments are very cheap in the market. But one who doesn’t know the usage of it, fears the process of transferring water as a menace. What is the cost of these tubes? Normally it costs 100 to 150 rupees, but when we have big tanks the item should be bought in accordance with their size and that increases its cost too. What is the name of these pumps? They are commonly known as siphon pumps. This was introduced as an experiment but found fruit. There will be shortage of space when we do vast fish culture. Besides guppy harvesting needs lots of separate tanks. I use these tanks to breed the fighter and foster their babies. In this little space we can make four layered 8 tanks to keep the different species as we do in vertical farming. This is indeed very successful. We normally use silpaulin sheets to make this tank. The sheet should be thick. The wood used in this can be inexpensive. The four leg-Part of the wood is needed to be strong. Metal net is used beneath the shelf. On the net there will be small wooden sheet. These kinds of shelf-tanks reduce the use of more space considerably. I have been using these shelves for three months. How we feed these fish? As I told you there are different kinds of guppies in the market on the basis of their price. Charming fish helps the business considerably We pay attention to culture trending guppies in the market. To get good quality and charming guppies we should give them good food. This food is called Artemia which are eggs of a sea living thing like shrimp from the U.S. This food reaches the market after processing from labs. It costs Rs.150 for 10gm. So 1500 rupees for 100 gm. There is also Indian artemia in lower price. But the foreign foods accelerate the good number of babies and we get healthy babies. Let us check how the process of hatching using these eggs. For this I use a bottle of 2 litre and making a hole on its lid.. After taking off the bottom of the bottle I connect a tube to the lid hole. After pouring water in it, I put crystal salt in to it. Then the artemia has to be put inside. When we give air circulation in to the bottle the eggs hatch within 24 hours. Then switch off the air connection and then pour the water in to another vessel by using its tube. We can see the shell of the eggs floating on the water and the hatched live artemia babies at the bottom of the vessel. We can deposit these to the tanks as a food for the fish. Which type of food you use as second..? I also use another food called Micro worm or bread worm. For making that I use bread after removing the four sides. I put it in to a transparent vessel which have a lid. We have to make holes on the lid.. I pour water on the bread and smash it.. After that, I pour the culture in to it . After four five days they hatch in to worms. They can be seen on the sides of these transparent vessel . This food is especially given to the fighter guppies. Now I am going to give this food to the fighter babies . This small amount of food consists of large number of living worms.. You can see they spread in to the water as soon as they are deposited. How much amount of food is needed to be feed? This much is enough. But exceeded food will not make harm as they eat that much. what are the diseases that affect the guppies? And what are the remedies you follow to defend it. It is well said prevention is better than cure. It is applicable in the matter of fish also. First of all the tank and water should be clean and tidy. We should be careful that there is no any chemical or oil substance in the water. Fish wastage should be removed timely as it would form ammonium in the water. When talk about disease, there are three types of them that I found directly.. One disease is related to water.. then the other one is due to fungus and wounds.. the next is internal parasite attack.. One disability that can be pointed out that the curve on their back bone. Some says that imbreeding is the cause for this phenomenon. It affects the quality of the fish. We should not over-feed the fish as it would contaminate water. What is the remedy? As I told you prevention is better as we can not do anything after they are affected by disease. Water should be changed timely and there should not be exceeded amount of moss and the wastage should be expelled. If we find they are affected by disease, we should extrude the affected fish out of the tank. Besides putting crystal salt and methylene blue in to the tank would be a preventive step to defend the disease. Jabir, how would be the marketing you do? Customers are attracted mainly by two ways.. One is directly by the satisfied customers who tells our qualities to others who are interested to buy fish. The other is by digital media. Guppy nurture has become a trend now a days. In the early period it was a curiosity of children but now it has become a business among people. What is in your hands Jabir? These are guppies to be sent on demand. I cannot distribute the item fully as per the demand. Because I get more orders from throughout Kerala but I face the scarcity of the required items. I distribute these by sending through buses and by giving to some people who travel to those places. Would not it create any harm to these fish while travelling as they are in closed boxes? On the day of dispatch, we should not feed them in the morning.. So the fish wastage would be less.. Water should be one third of the cover in which they are put. That would maintain the oxygen content Ok friends we got to know lot more things about guppy culture.. Mr.Jabir has given a detailed description on this fish culturing. If you have any doubts we have given his contact number and you can ask us through comment box on Youtube. Its jabir and ratheesh signing off .. Thank you for watching and keep on watching our videos.
