Is organic farming better for the environment than conventional farming?

You know, I don’t believe so and we are one
of the largest organic farmers, probably in the country, of leafy green vegetables.
But we’re also a large supplier of growing conventional vegetables.
And on the organic side we end up having to apply fertilizer for example and we talk in
terms of tons per acre. On the conventional side, it’s hundreds of pounds per acre.
And what that allows for the entire environment is there’s a lot less trucking. We’re not
moving these things all over the country – it’s more concentrated.
And I think in that way, conventional farming is very much easier on the environment.
