Roaches and rodents back in Dirty Dining

THEY STAND FOR ROACHES AND RODENTS.. AND THE RESTAURANT WITH THE MOST DEMERITS IS A REPEAT OFFENDER. CONTACT 13 CHIEF INVESTIGATOR DARCY SPEARS SHOWS US WHAT’S ON TONIGHT’S MENU. 10:41:03 DARCY: THE C GRADE IS NOT WHERE IT WAS. I CAN ALREADY SEE THAT. THAT’S THE FIRST THING WE DON’T SEE WALKING IN TO SICILY’S PIZZA ON DURANGO AND SPRING MOUNTAIN. 41:09 DARCY: SEE THAT EMPTY NAIL ON THE WALL. THAT’S WHERE THE C GRADE WAS POSTED WHEN THE HEALTH DISTRICT LEFT. THE SECOND THING WE DON’T SEE? 44:02 DARCY: HELLO?! EMPLOYEES. 43:10 DARCY: THEY’RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE DOOR CHIME THAT’S RUNG FOUR TIMES NOW? /CHIME NATS/ THAT’S FIVE. SICILY’S PIZZA GOT A 39-DEMERIT INFESTATION. NOW, WE’RE BACK AND SO ARE THE ROACHES. INSPECTORS SAW THEM IN THE MOP SINK AND ON THE FLOOR. PLUS, THE RESTAURANT COULDN’T PROVIDE PROOF OF PROFESSIONAL PEST CONTROL. INSPECTORS FOUND THE BACK DOOR PROPPED OPEN AND MISSING CEILING TILES, WHICH THEY SAY PLAY A ROLE IN LETTING ROACHES INTO THE KITCHEN. SOMEONE FINALLY COMES OUT TO GREET US. 45:56 DARCY: WE’D LIKE TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE KITCHEN AND WHY THEY WROTE UP SO MANY DEMERITS. FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE. EMPLOYEE: WELL IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU LIKE… DARCY: HERE’S MY CARD. HE DIDN’T HAVE ANY ANSWERS ABOUT ANY OF THE VIOLATIONS, LIKE WHY A FOOD HANDLER TOUCHED READY TO EAT PIZZAS WITH BARE HANDS REPEATEDLY DURING THE HEALTH INSPECTION. CHICKEN WINGS WERE COOLED IMPROPERLY AT ROOM TEMPERATURE HAD TO BE THROWN OUT. THERE WAS OLD FOOD DEBRIS ON UTENSILS, FLOORS, WALLS AND THE CEILING. LARGE AMOUNTS OF DRY AND CAKED-ON FLOUR ON THE DOUGH MIXER. EXCESSIVE DUST BUILD-UP ON DRY STORAGE SHELVES. AND, NO TOILET PAPER IN EMPLOYEE RESTROOMS. 46:44 EMPLOYEE: I DON’T WANT TO BE ON TV. DARCY: THE STORY’S GOING TO AIR BASED ON THE HEALTH INSPECTION. EMPLOYEE: OH. OK. 47:12 DARCY: WOULD YOU MIND ASKING IF THE PERSON IN CHARGE WOULD COME SPEAK WITH US WHILE WE’RE HERE? EMPLOYEE: UH… DARCY: WOULD YOU MIND ASKING FOR US? EMP: LET ME GIVE YOU A CALL. D: OK. E: THAT WOULD BE BETTER. D: OK. THAT CALL NEVER CAME. /NAT/ WE’VE GOT JUST ONE IMMINENT HEALTH HAZARD CLOSURE AT MAX’S RESTAURANT ON FLAMINGO AND MARYLAND PARKWAY. MAX’S CUISINE OF THE PHILIPPINES WAS SHUT DOWN PARTIALLY BECAUSE OF RODENTS. THEY ALSO FAILED REINSPECTION FROM A PREVIOUS C GRADE AFTER INSPECTORS FOUND MULTIPLE REPEAT VIOLATIONS, INCLUDING A LARGE AMOUNT OF RODENT DROPPINGS NEAR STICKY GLUE TRAPS AND SEVERE DAMAGE FROM RODENT ACTIVITY ON WALLS IN THE DRY STORAGE ROOM. THERE WERE OPEN CONTAINERS OF COOKED MEAT IN THE FREEZER. EQUIPMENT WAS SOILED WITH GREASE BUILD-UP AND DIRTY DISHWARES AND UTENSILS WERE STORED AS CLEAN. THERE WERE BUGS IN THE KITCHEN AND WATER, TRASH AND FOOD DEBRIS ON THE FLOOR. THIS IS WHAT THE INSPECTOR PICKED UP WHEN SHE WIPED DOWN A SUPPOSEDLY CLEAN CUTTING BOARD. AND THIS FROM A SUPPOSEDLY CLEAN PAN. PLUS, INSPECTORS SAY MAX’S STAFF PROVIDED FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT WHEN AND HOW FOOD WAS PREPARED AND COOLED. DARCY TAG: SICILY’S PIZZA NOW HAS AN 8-DEMERIT A GRADE. AND MAX’S REOPENED WITH A ZERO-DEMERIT A. DARCY SPEARS, 13 ACTION NEWS. SOMETHING YOU CHECK EVERY DAY….. COULD HELP YOU…. GET A NEW JOB.

  1. Phoenix Bar and Lounge West Sahara Ave plugged up toilets the sliders were cold and greasy tasting along with fries that seemed to be rancid from the cooking oil used to fry them.. Trash on the tables around Us and garbage on the floor it wasn't just inside.. We went outside to get away from the mess and it was just as bad with overflowing trash cans and litter blowing around the patio areas plus dried vomit.. That place is just plain nasty…
