Simple Distillation | #aumsum

Our topic for today is Simple Distillation. The process of heating a liquid mixture to
form vapor and then cooling that vapor to get a liquid is called simple distillation. Distillation is used to purify a liquid by
separating the components of a liquid mixture. Let us perform an activity to understand Simple Distillation. Take a mixture of acetone and water in a distillation flask. Put a thermometer in it. Connect the flask to a water condenser. The condenser has cold water running through its jacket to keep the temperature cool. Keep a beaker at the outlet of the condenser. Heat the mixture, keeping an eye on the thermometer. When temperature hits 56 degrees celsius, acetone starts to vaporize. These vapors condense in the water condenser. The condensed acetone gets collected in the beaker. When all the acetone vaporizes, water is left in the flask, acetone is collected in the beaker. In this way, acetone and water get separated by simple distillation. Boiling point of water is 100 degrees celsius. Boiling point of acetone is 56 degrees celsius. As there is sufficient difference between
their boiling points, these components can be separated by simple distillation. Simple distillation does not work properly
when difference between 2 boiling points is less than 25 degrees celsius. This is because the components do not get separated and purified completely. If we repeat this process multiple times,
we will be able to separate these 2 components. However, as this is very time consuming, a special type of distillation called fractional distillation is used.

  2. Tomorrow is my exam and I hadn't understand it before I saw this video. This video is so interesting and makes the study more convenient. If all the topics are taught in such an amazing way then there would be no more doubts . Thanks a lot

  3. Amazing bro 🙏😄😆🙏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻so good explanation just how do u get for people to understand u know just the explanation

  4. realy good but have you guys made a video on how using that method is more suitable than the other method???
    that would really help:)

  5. Surprisingly educational for such a childish animation, it's really helping me with my science homework.
    Thank you so much!

  6. This video was very helpful! I dropped some nail polish on my glasses once.
Luckily I had the mixture of acetone and water stashed in the kitchen. I keep regularly buying it when doing groceries.
It proved to be one of the most useful mixtures a person can have. Strongly recommended!

  7. I have a chemistry test tomorrow. This was the only topic that I wasn't able to understand. Thanks to this channel I am prepared for the test now.

  8. I don't know whether you are a teacher or not, but you are good at how to simplify any topic , which can easily be understood . After search more than once I got the topic understand .thank you very much

  9. Please make a video on Chemistry topic of

  10. #aumsum is really helpful for me. Understanding this complex procedure of simple distillation was hard for me but this video made it easy. Thanks. If you can please make a video of fractional distillation please.

  11. So… you can obtain acetone… by distilling a mixture of water and acetone? Which you´d have to create by mixing water and… well, acetone? How about you just use the acetone you would have used to obtain the mixture?

  12. I don't get it if you have acetone to mix in the water in the first place why are you distilling it just use the acetone

  13. Aite tell me something. He wanted to get pure acetone so he added water to it then distill the solution to get back what he started with?
